Decorating your home is such a fun experience, and it truly never ends (in a good way.) However, it can also be expensive. So, it’s important to be mindful throughout the process.
Here are my top three tips for keeping your budget slim and your home full.
Take Your Time
Trust me, I get it, shopping for a new space can be exciting. You want to fill it and you want to fill it quickly, but that may not be the best approach. Regretting a purchase is never fun, especially when it’s an expensive purchase. So, take your time. Get your creative juices flowing and channel your excitement into mood boards and sketches. Consider what you like, what you need, and what your lifestyle is. Shop around, and take time to think about pieces. Where will it go? How will I use it? Does it work for the vibe I want? Is it a quality investment or will it only last a year? Etc.
Be Smart About Projects
I love a good project, whether it’s a DIY vase or painting furniture or anywhere in between. However, projects can be expensive, time-consuming, and sometimes they don't come out quite right. So, before you decide to jump in on a project, make sure it’s something you really want to do and that it’s actually cheaper (or worth it to you if it’s not.)

Shop Secondhand And Look Often
Shopping secondhand CAN be cheaper, even when it’s more expensive up front. Oftentimes, new & cheaper finds aren't long lasting. So, while these newer pieces are technically cheaper, they don’t hold the same way as a well-built vintage or antique piece. So, keep in mind the long-term value.
Here are some great finds currently available at The FM.
Another pro of secondhand, is the character and uniqueness of items. It’s a big part of the magic of shopping secondhand. That being said, I like to look at stores with vintage, secondhand, & antique finds often. You never know what piece you’ll find or what will spark inspiration.

At the end of the day, it’s your space. Style it for you, you’ll be the one living in it. Be mindful, and buy what you truly love. Enjoy the experience, drag it out, and remember it's an evolving process.
